Summer Update July 2022

Dear Wildcats,

The end of July marks the midway point in our summer vacation and the perfect time for me to check in with you.  Our building and district leaders are busy preparing our buildings, recruiting highly talented teachers, and implementing a range of minor to major tweaks to our instructional program.  Summer gives us the time to reflect upon our work and engage in the important and necessary process of continuous improvement.

Safety and Security - Much of the summer work on our three campuses has centered around keeping our school community safe. Before school ended, we began working closely with security consultant, Altaris. Our work continues and will be ongoing into the Fall and beyond. We have made many changes that can be seen such as adding gates, cameras, and redesigning school entrances. Please note that for the safety of our staff and students some of this important work is not as obvious. However we are taking Altaris’ recommendations seriously and implementing all those which we are able to do at this time. Once again, thank you to the Town of Mt. Pleasant, Chief Oliva, and all of the officers who supported us this Spring. I remain grateful and look forward to our continued partnership. Finally, the District-wide Safety Plan is available on our website for a 30 day review. Please find the draft document here. Public comments will be heard at the 8/24/22 BOE Meeting.

Communications - The Summer Newsletter is headed to the printer and will be mailed to every resident in the school district. Thank you to each of you that made our year-end celebrations events to remember. The 2022-2023 school calendar is in production and a copy will be sent home with the youngest child in each family the first week of school. Copies will also be available at the library, community center, and the District Office at that time. We are excited to be working on a new website that will be launched in Fall.  It is early in development, but it is coming along well and beautiful.

Important Dates

  • Varsity and JV Athletics registration opened this week. Pre-season workouts will begin on August 22. Registration for Modified will open on August 15. Please visit the Athletics website for complete details.
  • The first day of school is Thursday, September 1. Communications regarding specifics for each school will be sent from the buildings.

Along with working hard to prepare for the start of school, my family and I are finding ways to get away and relax. I hope you are too. I have had time to read a great book and have a couple more in the queue. I look forward to being back together with our students in September and sharing stories about our summer adventures.

Go Wildcats, Go!!

With best regards,

Dr. Peter Giarrizzo

Superintendent of Schools
