Cell Phone Policy
The New York State Education Department has enacted a smart phone/internet enabled personal device use restriction policy.

The intent of the policy and the goal in the Mount Pleasant Central School District will be to have a distraction-free environment where the focus is on learning.
Cell Phone Free Schools: Parent FAQ
As the district’s new policy on cell phones and internet-enabled devices takes effect at the start of the 2025–26 school year, we are providing the following FAQ to support you and your child in adjusting to alternative methods of communication during the school day.
- Will my child be able to use their personal laptops at school?
- How can I reach my child in an emergency during the school day?
- What if there’s an urgent but non-emergency situation, like a last-minute pickup change or family update?
- How will students contact parents if they feel sick, anxious, or need support during the day?
- How will schools respond to student requests to contact parents for personal or sensitive reasons?
- What happens if the school phone lines are busy or the office is overwhelmed?
- How will you prevent communication delays or miscommunications between staff and students?
- Will there be a formal process for students to request to call home?
- Will there be limits on how often students can contact home?
- I use my child’s phone location to ensure they’re safe—will I still be able to track them?
- During a school lockdown or emergency, how will I know my child is safe if they can’t text me directly from inside the building?
- What about school events or after-school activities?
- What happens if my child is caught using their phone during school?
- How will students with medical conditions contact their parents quickly if symptoms change?
- What happens if my child loses and/or damages their pouch?
