Caring for Your District Device Chromebook & MacBook — 1:1 Device Program
Students are responsible for the general care of the Chromebook or MacBook issued to them through the Mount Pleasant CSD 1:1 Device Program. This guide applies to both device types; a few steps differ slightly by device and are noted below.
General Precautions
- No food or drink should be next to your device.
- Cords, cables, and removable storage devices (e.g., thumb drives) must be inserted carefully into the appropriate ports.
- Do not use your device's ports to charge a phone or other accessory — this can damage the internal components.
- Strong magnetic fields may cause damage, so keep your device away from any appliance that contains strong magnets.
- Charge your device in an area that will prevent people from tripping over the power cord.
- Heavy objects should never be placed on top of your device.
- Asset tags may not be modified or tampered with in any way.
- No stickers or similar items are to be placed on the device.
- Do not store your device with the screen open.
- Only clean the screen with a soft, dry microfiber cloth or anti-static cloth.
Carrying Your Device
- Always transport your device with care, with the lid closed.
- Never lift your device by the screen.
Opening and Closing Your Device
- Open your device only when it is resting on a flat surface, such as a table or desk. Use one hand to hold the keyboard base against the table, and the other hand to open the screen by grasping the middle of the screen's edge and gently moving it to the open position.
- Each device's hinge is designed to open only to its normal stopping point. Do not force the screen open past that point — doing so can break the screen or damage the hinge.
- Before closing the screen, make sure there is nothing on the keyboard that would prevent the device from closing fully. Objects left on the keyboard can crack the screen or damage the hinge.
Important Reminders
Do not share your password with anyone.
District-provided devices are managed and monitored using web proxy/filtering tools at all times.
Financial Responsibility Reminder
- Families sign a Parent/Guardian Acknowledgment of Financial Responsibility for their child's device at the start of the program. As a reminder:
- Normal wear and tear and manufacturer defects are covered and will never be billed to your family.
- Damage not covered under warranty or insurance is billed to the family, up to the device's replacement cost.
- Extensive or repeated damage may be billed to the family regardless of prior repair history.
- Lost or stolen devices are billed according to the terms of the signed agreement for that device type.
- Intentional damage or vandalism is referred to building administration for possible disciplinary action in accordance with the Code of Conduct.
See your device-specific agreement (Chromebook or MacBook Parent/Guardian Acknowledgment of Financial Responsibility) for full details, fees, and reporting deadlines.
