Vertical Articulation & Alignment
In the Mount Pleasant Central School District Strategic Plan, our first pillar is K-12 Alignment & Core Competencies, in which we are committed to develop high levels of proficiency in all learners, across an academically aligned K-12 curriculum, in which the core competencies of critical thinking, authentic research, oral and written communication, self management, and social skills are at the forefront of all learning. To accomplish this, our first objective is to "refine a continuum of learning that reflects both vertical and horizontal articulation and alignment across the K-12 curriculum."
Our faculty and staff have developed internal continuum of learning documents that support this articulation and alignment across grade levels and disciplines to provide a consistent, standards-based experience throughout our school system. We are now in the process of developing parent and student continuums of learning, in which course summaries and common learning expectations are embedded.
The graphic below serves as a metaphor for how we can collectively endeavor to develop high levels of proficiency across all competencies when Mount Pleasant students experience an articulated/aligned continuum of learning, K-12:
