Tryouts and Cuts
While we aim to include all interested student-athletes and reduce barriers to participation, tryouts/cuts may be required if the number of registrants exceeds the number of students we can safely supervise and equip. If tryouts/cuts are necessary, we will notify students and families at the conclusion of the registration period. Students who do not make a team may be offered the opportunity to join another team when feasible. Roster spots are not held for students who miss tryouts due to late registration, family vacations, school trips, or other conflicts. Each student-athlete and their family is responsible for ensuring registration is completed on time, and all required documentation is submitted before tryouts. Registration and tryout periods will not be extended.
Advanced Placement Process
The Athletic Department manages the Advanced Placement Process (APP). Middle school families may not request that their student-athlete participate at the HS level. If a student is identified for possible advanced play, the Athletic Department will contact the family directly. Additionally, APP eligibility is sport-specific; a student-athlete is not eligible to participate at the high school level in other sports/seasons without Athletic Department approval.
Merged Sports
These programs are not hosted on the Westlake campus and are administered under the supervision and oversight of the host school district. As a result, all practices, contests, and team events take place at the host district's designated facilities. Westlake does not provide transportation to any merged sport practices, games, or events. The student-athlete and their family are responsible for arranging needed transportation.
