8/29/2022 Welcome Back Wildcats
Dear Mount Pleasant Community,
I hope that summer brought your families the opportunity to rest, rejuvenate, and relax. I was able to spend time with my family in Italy which gave me time to disconnect and reflect on the work ahead for the 2022-2023 school year.
This morning, I welcomed back teachers and staff. I told them that we have much work to do together and I’m excited about the next chapter in our story. I offered them my very best wishes for an academic year that is productive, and that is filled with joyful teaching and learning. We talked about being unstoppable in our pursuit of student engagement and excellence. It was a beautiful day on our Westlake Campus and it made me even more excited to welcome our students back for the first day of school on Thursday, September 1st.
Building principals have shared specific details regarding the first few days of school and the Transportation page and Food Service pages of our website are excellent resources. That said, please take a few moments to review the following information:
The Printed Calendar
Printed school calendars will be sent home with students next week. Copies can also be obtained at the library, community center, Town of Mount Pleasant Offices, and our District Office at that time.
First Day of School
Please share your first day photos with us by emailing them to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will share them as a collection in the coming days on social media. Be sure to follow and like us on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
The Strategic Plan
Over the summer, we continued work on our Strategic Plan and Profile of a Mount Pleasant Learner. This work began with community surveys last Spring and was developed with the voices of many of our staff members, parents, community members, and students.
To advance our mission to educate each child today for endless possibilities tomorrow, as a District, we will:
- Develop high levels of proficiency in all learners across an academically aligned K-12 curriculum;
- Create a culture of care and wellness;
- Provide our staff professional learning opportunities to enhance learning.
Our dedicated coaches and student athletes have been practicing for the fall season over the past week. I hope that you will come out to support our Wildcats. Click HERE for the fall schedule on the Athletics page of the district website.
Safety and Security
Our partners from the Mount Pleasant Police Department were with us today and they will have a visible presence with us throughout the school year. We appreciate their commitment to our schools!
As you are aware, based on CDC guidance, New York State Department of Health, and New York State Education Department have released the following updates for the upcoming school year including:
- The Test-to-Stay protocol has been discontinued
- COVID screening/testing will not be required
- Contact Tracing will not be conducted
- Quarantine will not be required following exposure to COVID
- If an individual tests positive for COVID, he or she must isolate and stay home for at least five days; following isolation. Mask wearing is recommended for five days upon return to school
Please click HERE for the guidance documents that are posted to our website.
Please join me in thanking our custodial and office staff for helping us ensure that we will be ready for Thursday. Classrooms and all spaces of our schools both inside and outside are in excellent condition and ready for students! Thank you to our teachers for taking the time to ensure that our classroom environments are beautiful and ready for your children. Last but not least, thank you to our Board of Education members for their continued support and commitment to our schools and our students.
It is a great time to be a Wildcat!
With best regards,
Dr. Peter Giarrizzo
Superintendent of Schools
