4/22/2022 - 2022-2023 Budget Communication

Dear Wildcats,

Our school district mission and motto is “educating all children for their future.” Our ability to achieve this is through a commitment to excellence in every aspect of education. Our work is strengthened by our partnerships with our parents and community members and we are always grateful for your support.

This week the Proposed 2022-2023 Budget was adopted by the Board of Education and on May 17, 2022, the community will be asked to vote on a tax-cap compliant budget in the amount of $69,817,961, which represents an estimated tax rate increase of 1.56% for our homeowners. This year marks the 11th consecutive year that Mount Pleasant Central School District has delivered a tax-cap compliant budget to voters. Thank you to our Citizens’ Budget Advisory Committee for their advice and counsel throughout the budget development process.

Our operating budget is designed to tell a story that reflects our values. Once operational, it enables us to put them into action for teaching and learning. Every line of the budget is created with this driving priority as even our facilities must support all of our academic offerings while staying focused on preserving the short-term and long-term financial health of the District. As we worked to build the 2022-2023 budget, our main three areas of focus were the enrichment of learning, extension of learning, and support of all learners. I am pleased to share with you that the budget does all of these.

While the budget supports and enhances the instructional program in many ways, here are a few key highlights:

  • Strengthens the academic program (through the expansion of instruction: Fine and Performing Arts, STEAM, literacy, wellness, language, leadership, key supports for our most vulnerable learners)
  • Enhances instructional alignment K-12
  • Continues the implementation of academic initiatives in both literacy, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
  • Substantial rigging, audio, acoustical, and lighting upgrades to the John S. Whearty Theater

In the upcoming weeks before the vote, I will be sending regular updates to provide additional information. This Tuesday, April 26th, you are welcome to join me for Coffee and Conversation at the District Office at either 9:30 am or 7:30 pm., where we will talk about the budget and other items that might be on your mind.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read these updates, and for reviewing the presentations posted on our Budget Website. Additionally, a newsletter will be mailed to every resident in the school district prior to the vote.

With best regards,

Dr. Peter Giarrizzo
Superintendent of Schools
